2002-2003 Season

In the 2002-03 season the U14’s won the Shield competition when they defeated Drinagh 5-3 in the final.
2003-2004 Season
Last season 03-04 was the clubs most successful year when the juniors won promotion and won the division 2 cup while the u18’s finished third in their league section.
The U16 team remained unbeaten for the season winning the league and cup double beating Bunratty in each final under the guidance of Danny Peters and Tony Drummey who also were in charge of the U14 team that retained  the Shield after beating Skibbereen 2-1 after extra time in a fantastic match..
To finish off the great season the U12 team under manager David Hourihane gave a great display in the U12 shield final against Clonakilty winning 4-1.

2004-2005 Season

The 04/05 season saw the start of ladies soccer in the West Cork League. The Bay Rovers Ladies performed well in their first season and were unlucky to finish runners up in the Ladies Cup Final. We also saw an U14 girls team playing 2 games against Skibbereen, which they both won.
The Boys U12 team didn’t have much luck in the league but retained the Shield with a great 4-1 win over Riverside.
The U14 team under manager Danny Peters won the Shield for the 3rd year running when they beat Togher Celtic 3-0 in the final. They also reached the u14 Cup final where they were beaten by favourites Riverside after putting up a good performance. This team also travelled to England during Easter to compete in the prestigious Blackpool Cup. They finished joint first in their group but lost in the quarter final. They did win the Fair Play Trophy which was awarded for their behaviour on and off the pitch. They also reached the last 64 in the National Cup.
The U16 team reached the league semi finals where they were beaten by eventual winners Clonakilty

2005-2006 Season

This was the year of the u16’s. Both the juniors and other underage teams didn’t have much luck this season. The U16’s started their season with winning the Bay Rovers organised u16 Mark Hutchinson perpetual Shield when they beat College Corinthians 2-1 in the deciding match. The team also travelled to the Hasselt Cup in Belgium over Easter where they finished in 7th place. On Wednesday the 19th of April, two days after they returned from Belgium, they took on Clonakilty in the U16 Shield final in Drinagh. They won this match 3-2. On Saturday the 22nd of April they did the double after beating Riverside Athletic 5-3 after extra time in what was classed as the under age game of the season by the Evening Echo. A mention must be made about the U8 team which went through the season unbeaten under the management of Sean Mc Carthy.

2006-2007 Season

The juniors just missed out on promotion this year but were building a good team with some of the youngsters breaking into the first team. The lost on penalties to neighbours Durrus in the AIB Shield semi final and lost the Division 1 Cup final 3-2 to a good Crookstown team. The u16’s retained the U16 Shield with a 4-1 win over Drinagh. The U18 team created history for the club when they won the first U18 trophy in our history with a 4-2 win over Riverside Athletic with Shane Drummey getting a hat trick. This team also travelled to the Czech Republic to compete in the Budweis Cup in July. They returned home with a cup when they finished in 4th place.

2007-2008 Season

The Rovers U12 team made it into the Cup Final where they lost to a strong Bunratty team. The team under the management of Aidan Harrington and Ricky Peters played well to get to the final but Bunratty proved too strong on the day. In the Shield 1/4 final they lost 1-0 to Dunmanway Town in a very close match.
The Juniors made it to the Carling Cup Final. A depleted team lost 4-1 to Drinagh .They also played in the division 1 cup final where for the second year running they finished runners up after Clonakilty Town beat them 4-3. While promotion looked a formality in February they lost out by 2 points to Ardfield for the second promotion spot.
The U14 team were unlucky to lose against Drinagh in the U14 shield final. This game went the whole way to penalties.
The U16 team lost 3-2 to Lyre in the semi final of the shield in a close match.

2008-2009 Season

After a long season the Junior team finished in 3rd place in the league. Fielding different teams during the year didn’t help. With some more commitment by some this team is good enough to win promotion next season. They played in their third division 1 Cup Final and after losing the last two it proved third time lucky when they beat Droumree Dynamoes 3-2 on a fine Lyre Rovers pitch. The Under-age section of the club was also in full action this season. The U7-8-9-10 and U11 teams performed very well and make the future look bright. The U12 team playing in the Premier League had a battle right upto the last game of the season with Dunmanway town and Lyre and only just lost out on the title when Dunmanway equalised late against Drinagh. The U14 team finished second in the Premier league to an outstanding Skibbereen team.

2009-2010 Season

This was Bay Rovers 20th year competing in the West Cork League. Our under age section did really well this season. The U7-8-9-10 and 11 teams performed very well in their respective blitzes. Our U12 team were crowned Supervalu West Cork Schoolboys Premier league winners going unbeaten for the season. Our U14 team were U14 Premier League champions also going unbeaten for the season and won the U14 Shield as well. The U16 team finished mid table in a tight league where only a few points separated 2nd from last. The Juniors retained the Beamish Division 1 Cup with a 4-1 victory over local rivals Bantry Gunners. They finished in 3rd place in the league for the 5th year running. Hopefully they will improve enough to finally go up next season. The club were awarded the Paddy mc Carthy shield for their success on and off the field. Also Connor Ellis of the U12 team was named player of the season in the U12 Premier League and Shane Delaney picking up his award for the U14 premier league player of the year. Celebrations were held in the Maritime Hotel where player were given their player  and top scorers of the year awards .

2010-2011 Season

This season Rovers first team won the Division 1 league and were promoted to the Premier league after a lengthy absence. The team played well the whole season and after finishing 3rd a few times they finally got there. Rovers second string played their first season in division 2B and made the play offs where they were unlucky to lose out. Rovers ladies team made their return to the Cork Examiner Ladies league and competed well in each game. Hopefully with a manager this coming season the results will improve. In the schoolboys league Rovers didn’t enjoy much luck this year. The highlight was our u16 team who finished runners up in both league and cup campaigns.

2011-2012 Season

Rovers Junior team picked up 7 points in their last 3 games to maintain their place in the Premier League for the 2012-2013 season. Rovers U12 team managed by Mike O'Driscoll and coach Tom Flynn were the team of the year winning both the Supervalu U12 Premier League and Cup.

2012-2013 Season

Rovers U16 team made it onto the Shield Final against Clonakilty AFC and in an exiting game lost 4-3.
Rovers Junior team were demoted to division 2 aftergiving 2 walk overs in the season when they were unable to field.

Founding of the Club

Bantry Bay Rovers AFC was established in 1990 to cater for the needs of soccer enthusiast in the general area of Bantry, Durrus, Glengarriff and Kealkill..

The founders were Michael Mc Carthy [Secretary], Colm Mc Carthy [Chairman], both from Glengarriff and Michael O’Driscoll Treasurer since 1991 and the first President of the club. Brian O’Connor was the club’s first PRO and set up the club’s first U18 team. The clubs first jerseys were sponsored by Sheila Murphy who has been the Club Secretary for the last 11 years.

Our home games were played on the community fields in Durrus and Glengarriff while the underage teams had the use of the pitch at St Gobans College Bantry.

The underage section of the club didn’t play for a number of seasons when the West Cork League objected to the use of St Gobans pitch. Despite various pleas to the people of Bantry a new pitch could not be found.

Then during the summer in 2002 , just when it looked that Bay Rovers would be history, local Businessman Donal Casey of Bantry Tyre centre, offered the club the use of his land at Lisheen, Kealkill. A lot of hard work and time was put in by Michael O’ Driscoll, Danny Peters and Tony Drummey and more members to get the pitch ready for the 02-03 season. We now have 3 full size pitches and dressing rooms .We field 9 teams this season, Junior, Junior A, U18-U16-U14-U12-U10-U9-U8.
